ESN Recognized for Smart Grid Technology Work by Energy CIO Insights

News Release

(INDIANAPOLIS, November 5, 2015) Indiana is now being spotlighted for its expertise in smart grid technology, thanks to recognition received by Energy Systems Network (ESN), an organization focused on the development of the energy technology sector. The national industry magazine Energy CIO Insights recognized ESN in its latest issue as a “Top 10 Vendor to Watch in Smart Grid,” alongside GE Digital Energy, EnerNOC, and Landis+Gyr.

ESN is being recognized for a number of national and international collaborative and consulting projects it has conducted with global partners, including Toyota Motor Corporation, Duke Energy, Toshiba Corporation, the Battery Innovation Center, and others in the smart grid space.

Examples of those projects include:

  • A North American pilot of the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) to test new technologies and standards for how the vehicles, home charging stations, utility companies, and drivers can seamlessly communicate to maximize convenience and energy savings for the customer.
  • A partnership with Toshiba to demonstrate their MicroEMS microgrid controls system in the U.S. in the Clay Terrace Plug-In Ecosystem project with Duke Energy and Simon Malls.
  • Working with the Battery Innovation Center, which ESN launched in 2013, to establish one of the world’s most advanced interoperability microgrid labs, which houses an array of equipment (e.g., grid simulators, energy storage systems, renewable energy systems, etc.) that can be used to study how batteries can maximize renewable power sources and integrate them into the electric grid.

Energy CIO Insights is a monthly industry magazine targeting leaders in energy and power fields, including perspectives written by industry CEOs, CTOs, and CIOs. The publication, based in Fremont, Cali., offers information on the latest technological advancements, solutions, and opinions in the field to a readership of 42,000 subscribers.
