President Obama: I want new breakthroughs in energy technology in Indiana

President Obama visited Indiana for the fifth time in his presidency today at Allison Transmission, an ESN partner, to applaud their efforts in being a leader in hybrid transmissions, thanks in part to a $62.8 million federal grant.

In addition to supporting Allison’s energy efficient transmission systems, Obama also took the opportunity to propose a $7,500 tax rebate for consumers who purchase an electric vehicle. He explained that this technology is the future of the nation, and the US needs to invest in it now despite the economic downturn of recent years.

Obama touted his national energy plan by emphasizing the importance of continuing clean tech innovations in the U.S. and pushing for more research and development to become leaders in the field. “I don’t want the new breakthrough technologies and the new manufacturing taking place in China and India. I want all those new jobs right here in Indiana, right here in the United States of America, with American workers, American know-how, American ingenuity,” he said.

The President continued to praise Allison and the state of Indiana by stating, “…America’s economy is always going to rely on outstanding manufacturing, where we make stuff — where we’re not just buying stuff overseas, but we’re making stuff here, and we’re selling it to somebody else. And that’s what Allison is all about.”
